What is the role of the respiratory stem?
The role of the respiratory system is to ensure breathing. One inhales oxygen and exhales carbon dioxide.
What are the major components of the respiratory system?
1) Nose
-Wet membrane uses mucus to trap foreign body in the air
-Olfactory nerves sense changes in temperature, pain, smell
-Air enters through nostrils
-Made from cartilage
-Nose continues to grow throughout your life time

How many breaths does an average person take per minute?
The average adult takes 8 to 16 breaths per minute.
20 to 25 breaths per minute for children.
What is the larynx?
The larynx is also called the windpipe.
Epiglottis stops food from going down the larynx and ensures it goes down the oesophagus
Vocal cords allow for the voice and pitch to be adjusted, vibration of air particles through the vocal fold
Cilia to brush off foreign materials
What is the role of the lungs?
Exchange of gases
Keeps the oxygen
Expels the carbon dioxide
Contains the little airs called alveoli
