My role model (and tribute)

“Today has definitely been better than yesterday.”

These optimistic, wise words from Ken Block echo in my mind everyday, giving me a hopeful outlook on the present and the future. Ken Block was an American rally driver who was born in 1967 at Long Beach, California, USA. He lived for 55 years until he sadly died on 2nd January 2023 in Woodland Utah, USA. He was crushed by his snowmobile. Throughout his life, Ken possessed an unquenchable thirst for adventure and challenges. Hence, I deeply admire somebody like Ken who has astonishing spirit to push beyond boundaries and set new records even till his last day.

He pulled off many prodigious stunts. Examples of them ranged from jumping over a river in his Ford Focus, dashing through a train track while being metres away from the train in his Ford Focus and jumping 5 metres in the air in his Subaru Impreza. His most famous vehicle was a Ford Focus RS RX which was used for multiple stunts. Another car he used is a 1965 Ford Mustang with over 1400 horsepower, nicknamed the ‘Hoonicorn’.

He was the king of Gymkhana and was insane with drifting. He also took many sports like snowmobiling. After all these years, he was known all around the world and loved by people of all ages. His death made us cry but his legacy remains with us now. I will always remember that today will always be better than yesterday.
