Instead of pounding my hands into my fist at the misfortunes of life, an iconic film character Forrest Gump comes to mind. He once explained in a simple analogy, ‘life is like a box of chocolates’. Although he faced great adversity in life with an intellectual disability, he won over the audience’s hearts with his integrity and authenticity. Let's explore this concept. Your life is like a bewildering box of chocolates, with surprises ready at every corner. Some chocolates may be scrumptious while others might be horrendous.

From the instant you are born, there are surprises. It could be from disabilities, conditions, genetic mutations and more, that make you special. Sometimes things stand out like my protruding Morton’s Toe. Funnily enough, I also have other peculiar features, like my bendy thumb and an eye fuzziness condition from my dad. The things that make me different are the things that make me me.

Your life may have begun frustratingly as a small, vulnerable seedling without experience. Eventually, you will blossom, the flower opens and the world is at your reach. As you mature, it could be your look, character and unique opinions that astound you and the ones around you. Sitting at my desk researching the most progressive car designs by Karl Benz makes me feel comfortable and relaxed. I was never a fan of public speaking, as standing in front of humongous crowds makes my palms sweaty and my hands shaky. Standing up really high gives me butterflies in my stomach. Despite being excellent nectar providers, bees make my body tremble with fear when they come close. My fears may be irrational but they make me feel special.

When you are yourself, you will be known for being you! Live with who you are and hold a strong bond with yourself. Life is a box of chocolates and embracing who you are makes everything sweeter!
