Attention on Deck!

The sun falls over the horizon. The light pulled away by the deep abyss. One faithful recruit  proudly strides his way to a gate. He gives a final glance to his parents and gives a quick and sharp wave. Tears roll down his parents’ proud and honoured faces as the gate closes back. Waves roll relentlessly through the boy's mind as he gleams out to the convoy of navy vessels and glamorously imagines himself on deck. 

 The boy enters a large hall. A menacing figure boldly stands at the stage and stares out to the endless sea of navy recruits. The crowd chatters, but immediately drops dead quiet when the intimidating figure makes an announcement.

“ATTENTION! You are all a part of the 322 Navy squadron!”

The hall cheers.

“Now you puppies will get to feel the ocean like it's your sibling!” The hall silences again. A wave of mixed emotions gushes through people.

The young recruit sits pensively, gazing with full concentration at the ominous authority figure. He envisions himself on deck one day receiving orders.

“DISMISSED!” the figure shouts.

The boy jolts up, meanders into the sea of recruits and swiftly follows the rest towards a large vessel. Soon he creeps into a small room cramped with bunk beds and sweaty recruits. The recruit picks a bunk and lays flat, exhausted. He hears other recruits getting to know each other. The boy on the other hand lies flat and paralysed on the rough, old bunk. 

The sun rose. A gleaming light pierced through the vessel's windows. Engines start and a new beginning has risen.
