Importance of Forgiveness

Updated: May 12, 2023

Forgiveness is defined by letting go of grudges in order to live a happier life free from anger. Forgiveness is of paramount importance in a child’s journey to living a fulfilling life. Where forgiveness is granted, individuals can move on and have high er self esteem. In contrast, when forgiveness is withheld, individuals cannot progress and continue to let anger control their actions.

Although I am an adolescent, I know that the epitome of happiness cannot be reached without forgiveness. Let me share an anecdote where my friend let anger control his actions to the point of hurting others and himself. One of my friends owned a lego character, which was stolen by another kid and thrown onto the second level of the floor. He retaliated by vengefully hurling books at the child who misplaced his toy. Both students were reprimanded by the teacher. The toy was carefully removed from the ledge by another student. In an alternative scenario where the friend did not let anger get the better of him and forgave him, the lego character would have been returned and both students may have avoided the scolding.

Forgiveness is synonymous with happiness. Without forgiveness, individuals are hindered from future success, and remain bounded by grudges to deteriorate emotionally. Forgiveness allows individuals to thrive and prosper in a world with potentially unscrupulous and conniving acts.
