School, everybody despises it, but I don’t. Many people find school long and torturous grinds filled with complex maths sessions and difficult English words. On the contrary, for me, meeting people, gaining a sense of belonging and familiarity bring endless joy. School fits that description well!

Firstly, I feel like I belong there and being around friends uplifts my spirits extraordinarily. I enjoy being an inquisitive student learning from teachers and collaborating with fellow students. Talking with friends can be calming, rewarding and fun. I love random chats with friends about our passions and dreams, and we look after each other instead of entering into bitter and spiteful arguments. The company of friends brings laughter, smiles and joy into what would otherwise be a tedious, monotonous day.

Secondly, school is the place I grew up and know well. I have many colourful and fond memories of the buildings, the flat demountables and even the old, disgusting bathroom. It’s a place of familiarity. The feeling of nostalgia never leaves me, and warms my heart. I still remember trembling with fear when daddy longlegs visited the 6 year old me in that bathroom. I nearly jumped but my kind classmate gave me a hug and told me I was going to be okay. School quickly transformed from a distant island into my second home.

School is an adventurous playground where you can easily make new friends and participate in novel activities. I LOVED meeting the kindergartens. Getting our kindy buddies was a fabulous experience as I could meet younger people. They are also adorable! I am extremely grateful for the variety of friends and acquaintances who I can trust and depend on. It is convenient and reassuring to know that somebody will be there during times of frustration, stress, anxiety and adversity.

School forever remains as my most significant place. Unfortunately, soon I will sadly have to say goodbye to this place of familiarity, support and adventure. My next endeavours will be in high school. I may not have the opportunity to interact and talk to the same friends everyday. However, I will strive for the right social balance and school will hold a special place within my heart.
