PROMPT: Write a story about your neighbour. Ensure that there is a complication to be solved. Plan your paragraphs and make sure to write in full sentences. Add details about their name and their interests so the character feels real and the reader can connect with them. To further make the interaction interesting, talk about the activities you would do with them and what you learnt from them.
My neighbour Shirley embodies the warmth and sweetness of a lovely grandma, reminiscent of delectable chocolate brownies. Beneath her tall, stoic exterior, she is a tender soul who always gives our slobbery dogs a good kiss whenever they are in the front yard. Despite the gentle tracing of age on her hands, they wield culinary magic, conjuring the enchanting scents of ANZAC biscuits, which she would generously share with those around her.
Without my neighbour, I would not be half as mature as I am today. Shirley offers me work to do to keep me productive, rewarding me with a delicate porcelain figurine from her precious collection. While she is on holiday, she would graciously assigns me the upkeep of her home and car. I was reluctant to do housework but Shirley taught me the joys of creating comfort and order in the home. She imparted her wisdom onto me, ‘housework is not a punishment but a way to show responsibility.’
Coming from the distant shores of America, Shirley sparks vibrant conversations of different adventures whenever I stroll by. Although she has retired from being a pilot, her past work experiences made her fluent in myriad languages. She embraces teaching Japanese to me and tells me about the great planes like the A6M0. Her eyes are always aglow with the brilliant twinkle of stars when she recounts these legendary tales. Her breadth of knowledge enriches every encounter. In her presence, I am constantly fascinated and curious.
Despite her age, Shirley remains the epitome of kindness and charm. When I grow older, I would be delighted to have accumulated a treasury of anecdotes humorous and colourful as hers.
