Food Wastage

Food consumption epitomises the cornerstone of a progressive, intellectually vibrant society. It gives us nutrients, energy, and self-satisfaction, which is just enough for our daily necessities as human beings. As a fruitful society, we have had endless opportunities to yield crucial supplies of edible food, just so most of us can avoid facing the reality of malnourishment. As much as food is loved, we sometimes overlook a crucial question: have I contributed to such sustainable practices?

Regrettably, it is no secret that we take this luxury for granted, astonishingly building our own nation of food waste, with at least 1.3 billion tonnes of waste generated annually. As we continue to overproduce food and mindlessly induce ourselves in irresponsible behaviour, all of this leads to the emissions of greenhouse gases. If the greenhouse gases produced by the food wastage was a country, that is almost third after China and USA. Whilst we hypnotise ourselves into living our perfect lives to the fullest, we tend to forget the deadly repercussions. As organic matter decomposes across large landfills, it turns into methane gas that ultimately contributes itself to the event of global warming.
Before you contemplate leaving your dinner plate half-full or even throwing away an imperfect apple, let's not forget how they both disregard ethical concerns and hunger amongst underprivileged countries. Because each day, at least 25,000 individuals die of starvation and many of us are oblivious our own wrongdoings. We are suffocating our own nation in food scraps until it either becomes populated or it migrates to another nation.
So, think to yourself. When was the last time that you yearned for starvation to vanish? We stand perilously close to overriding the existence of food itself. Let’s undo all our actions by controlling our own food portions, avoiding leftovers, composting, and graciously donating excess food to those who need it. Instead of creating a future where our own country becomes a mass landfill, let's restore and purify this land we rely on.
