Scary Social Media

When was the last time you used a social media platform - last night, an hour ago or yesterday? Social media use needs to be abolished. Social media is severely addictive, hindering children from developing interpersonal skills and encourages ignorant social behaviours and perpetuates insecurities lowering self - esteem.

Firstly, social media is addictive. For instance, when you look at your phone, a chemical called dopamine get released through your brain, rendering a good feeling. According to scientists, the brain gets flooded with dopamine, becoming unable to think properly and only wanting to scroll endlessly.

Secondly, children are unable to be social in-person. During leisure time, they may be scrolling through social media, leaving few to focus on real life interactions. This stops them from gaining the valuable communication i skills needed to thrive in the future. .

Lastly, we should ban social media because of negative influences on impressionable teens. For example, teenagers may imitate dangerous behaviors and pull daredevil stunts such as slam dunking on a retail worker or faking fainting in a car to see a policeman's reaction. This leads to major consequences. Furthermore, influencers may exacerbate body image issues and insecurities leading to myriad problems relating to self-esteem.

In conclusion, students should be banned from using social media because of its addictive nature, inhibition of real life interactions and risks to self - esteem for impressionable teens.
